If you have no facility to do this, you can carefully grind this 'neck' with an angle grinder or something, while the tool is running slowly in the spindle.

Should be no problems as I use end mills in my router all the time since I have a CNC and a metal cutting mill. Although most of my 1/2" diameter shank EM's are HSS so have to be careful on setting the router speed lower since you can end up burning the bit. I try not to use HSS in my router unless I have no choice.

If your after a real good surface finish and you feel the part geometry needs to be surfaced with a ball endmill, a very good alternative is the "flat" ball from LMT Fette. It is basically a ball endmill with a very tiny flat cutting portion on the nose to avoid the zero surface feet at the tip, for example a 6mm dia ball has around a 1mm flat.
